words and music by Phillip Morgan
A song was heard in China
in the city of Beijing.
In the spring of 1989
you could hear the people sing.
And it was the song of freedom
that was ringing in the square,
the world could feel the passion of
the people gathered there.
Oh children, blood is on the square.
For many nights and many days,
waiting in the square.
"To build a better nation"
was the song that echoed there.
"For we are China's children,
we love our native land,
for brotherhood and freedom
we are joining hand in hand."
Oh children, blood is on the square.
Then came the People's army
with trucks and tanks and guns.
The government was frightened
of their daughters and their sons.
But in the square was courage and
a vision true and fair,
the Army of the People would not harm
the young ones there.
Oh children, blood is on the square.
On June the 3rd in China,
in the spring of '89,
an order came from high above
and passed on down the line.
The soldiers opened fire,
young people bled and died,
the blood of thousands on the square
that lies can never hide.
Oh children, blood is on the square.
For four more days of fury
the people faced the guns.
How many thousands slaughtered
when their grisly work was done?
they quickly burned the bodies
to hide their coward's shame,
but blood is thick upon their hands and
darkness on their names.
Oh children, blood is on the square.
There are tears that flow in China
for her children that are gone.
There is fear and there is hiding,
for the killing still goes on.
And the iron hand of terror can
buy silence for today,
but the blood that lies upon the square
cannot be washed away.
Oh children, blood is on the square

In the month of May, in the glory of the day
Came the descendants of a hundred flowers
And their fight it did begin
With the aging Mandarin
And they fought with an extraordinary power
Everyone was smiling, their hearts were one
In Tiananmen Square
But it seems that the Spring
This year in Beijing
Came just before the Fall
There was no summer at all
In Tiananmen Square china china
There's peace in the emerald fields
There's mist upon the lakes
But something is afoot in the People's Hall
The spirit of Chu Ping is
Alive in young Chai Ling
And the Emperor has his back against the wall
Black sun rising over Tiananmen Square
Over Tiananmen Square
But it seems that the Spring
This year in Beijing
Came just before the Fall
There was no summer at all
In Tiananmen Square china china
In the month of June
In the darkness of the moon
Went the descendants of a hundred flowers
And time may never tell how many of them fell
Like the petals of a rose
In some satanic shower
Everyone was weeping in all of China
And Tiananmen Square
But it seems that the Spring
This year in Beijing
Came just before the Fall
There was no summer at all
In Tiananmen Square china china
And even the moon on the fourth day of June
Hid her face and did not see
Black sun rising over Tiananmen Square
And Wang Wei Lin, you remember him
All alone he stood before the tanks
A shadow of forgotten ancestors
In Tiananmen Square
And my blue-eyed son, you had no one
You could call a hero of your age
You have the rainbow warriors
Of Tiananmen Square, singing
China Shall Be Free china Shall Be Free
China Shall Be Free
Same Cry (Feat. L.T.; Explicit)

We may look different
But we see the same sky
We may see different
But we cry the same cry
To wake up daily and sleep better nights
That's what we all wish for to seek a better life, right?
It's unfortunate when tragedy strikes
But the truth is reality bites
June 4th, '89, a day residents feared
Now known as The Massacre at Tiananmen Square
The day I turned seven, they were mourning and grieving
Thousands of innocent died for what they believed in
Armed with nothing but heart and a point to prove
Stood in front of tanks and refused to move
What would you do? Run or stand still?
When the life's on the line to test the man's will
Seeking change and they found it, but in death
Strangers, yet they were my blood and flesh
This happened in China but you ain't gotta be Asian
to relate to the struggle, pain, and heartache
So...
We'll never know
You'll never get it
There is no choice
We can't forget it
When we look up
We see the same sky
When we look up
We cry the very same cry
See, I'm a grown man
It hurts when I turn on the news
And see what's going on in my homeland
The SARS epidemic could've been lies
Could've stand for 'Should Asians Really Survive?'
They'll try anything to break your family apart
Politics will break down the manliest heart
Can the child within my heart rise above?
If there's a billion of us,
I shouldn't have to look for love
Overpopulation, but damn, just to meet the needs
It's illegal to have more than one seed?
How can you dictate birth, regardless to women
And the parents, they make the hardest decisions
Sons keep their family names, so that's not an option
Imagine being forced to put your daughter for adoption
And even though it's beyond your control
Keep your head up, here's a song for your soul
We'll never know
You'll never get it
There is no choice
We can't forget it
When we look up
We see the same sky
When we look up
We cry the very same cry
If you don't know where you came from
You can't get the way you trying to go
Ain't no denying so, it's true
I got some big shoes to fill
But if I don't lead the movement, then who will?
Stuck between a rock and a hard place
Thinking about the refugees that went to see God's face
Sixteen thousand miles across the ocean tides
Some died, some got lucky and survived
I wouldn't call it luck, they reached their destination
Modern-day slavery without the plantation
Them sneakers on your feet cost a hundred a pop
My people's making 15 cents a day at sweatshops
To make them kicks so you can look good
Think we open restaurants 'cause we cook good?
Hell no, we ain't got no choice
I gotta speak up, without me my people have no voice
We'll never know
You'll never get it
There is no choice
We can't forget it
When we look up
We see the same sky
When we look up
We cry the very same cry
We'll never know
You'll never get it
There is no choice
We can't forget it
When we look up
We see the same sky
When we look up
We cry the very same cry

Time cannont eat away what is unforgettable,
deep in our heat, we still remember that day on that year;
our past sorrow has turned into stength over the years,
searching for the years truth and an ideal forever;
Despite the long path, we went forth without knowing fear,
just cut through the thorns, don't bother looking back,
life is turbulent, yesterday's crowds said nothing,
I wouldn't bother analysing much, whether it's geniue or hypocracy.
But there is a dream, which will never die, remember that!
No matter how heavy the rain, freedom will still blossom.
But there is a dream, which will never die, remember that!
It comes from our heart, remember that!
What is unforgettable left behind an immortal belief
I genuinely believe someday it will come true;
such a message relies on you and me to do our best,
to carry on and strive for the dream.
Despite the long path, we went forth without knowing fear,
just cut through the thorns, don't bother looking back,
